Q: I'm trying to open a project that Metrix says
is "Locked" but I know that no one has it open. How can
I access this project?

A: Like most enterprise
database applications, Metrix periodically locks database records
to maintain data integrity. For example, when a Metrix user opens
a project, the database flags the project as locked so no other
user can access the project. When the user closes the project the
lock is released. If someone attempts to open a project that
is already open a message similar to the following is displayed.

Metrix also locks the plant's equipment or resources
database when a user is editing something like a press or a stock.
The database flags the plant database as locked so another user
cannot interfere with the first user's edits while they're being
made.
If the database server is shut down while someone
is still running Metrix a database lock may not be released correctly
resulting in a "stale lock" remaining in the database.
The project or plant will be unavailable because the database considers
it in use.
Metrix ships with a program called "Locks"
which can be used in such cases to release stale locks. The application,
Locks.exe, can be found in the Metrix installation folder and when
run displays all current database locks. Selecting a stale lock
and clicking Delete releases the lock on the database item.

Note: "Locks" should only be run when Metrix
is not running. If a lock was deleted for an item genuinely in use,
Metrix could behave unexpectedly and database corruption could result.
(This is probably a good time to remind users that you should regularly
backup your Metrix database files. Click here
