Q: Can I make Metrix automatically select a marks
master when exporting a Preps template?
Product:
Metrix
Version:
1.5, 1.6, 1.7
Operating System:
Windows XP or Windows 2000
Last Updated:

A:Yes. If the Select Marks Master user preference
(available from User Preferences in the Settings menu) is set to
"Auto", Metrix looks in the last selected marks master
folder for a specific marks master file, based upon the project's
press, sheet size, and printing method.
To create marks masters that will automatically be
selected in this manner, name each marks master file per the following
convention:
where each italicized word should be replaced with
the relevant value.
Press Name
Metrix uses the name of the press used for side 1
of the layout. However, in Metrix press names can include characters
that are not valid for use in file names, such as the following:
\ / : * ? " < > |
When Metrix encounters any of these it substitutes a dash character.
For example, for a press named 'SM 40"' Metrix will
look for a file beginning 'SM 40-'.
Sheet Height and Sheet Width
Metrix uses the height and width of the sheet in either
millimeters or decimal inches (not fractional inches), depending
on the current unit.
Printing Method
Metrix recognizes the following values for each printing
method: 'SHEETWISE', 'WORK_TURN', 'WORK_TUMBLE', 'ONE_SIDED', or
'PERFECTED'.
When the Export dialog opens, if the Select Marks
Master user preference has been set to "Auto", Metrix
calculates the relevant file name for the current project, as explained
above, and displays the file name in the Marks Master field. Metrix
also checks if the file exists in the last selected marks master
folder and indicates to the user if it does not, giving the user
the opportunity to build the library of marks masters on the fly.
