Q: Can I make Metrix automatically put larger
gutters between product instances?
Product:
Metrix
Version:
1.5, 1.6, 1.7
Operating System:
Windows XP or Windows 2000
Last Updated:

A: Metrix
calculates the distance between two neighboring product instances
based upon two properties:
1. the bleed on the relevant edges of the
products, and
2. the production method's Page To Bleed Gap property.
The "Page To Bleed Gap" property is the
default distance between one page's trim and another product's page
bleed. For example, pictured below, the product pages all bleed
1/8 inch and the Page To Bleed Gap is 1/8 inch, so the bleeds of
all pages butt, creating a total of 1/4 inch between each neighboring
instance.
Bleed of 0.125" and a Page To Bleed Gap of 0.125" means
bleeds of neighboring products will butt, creating 0.25" gutters.

If, for a particular layout, you preferred to have
1/2 inch between all bleeding instances set the Page To Bleed Gap
property to 3/8 inch (1/2 - 1/8 = 3/8). After clicking 'Auto Layout'
Metrix calculates a new layout based on the new properties.
Bleed of 0.125" and a Page To Bleed Gap of 0.375" creates
0.5" gutters.

The Page To Bleed Gap property of all new project's
is determined by the Database Conventions 'Default Page To Bleed
Gap' property. To reset the Default Page To Bleed Gap property,
open the Database dialog (select Database in the Settings menu)
in Administration mode and select Conventions. Select the measurement
unit and click Edit. Changes will effect all new projects.
