A:Yes. Metrix 1.7 allows users to define press
sheet marks in the Metrix user-interface. These marks will be exported
to Preps templates or to a JDF Imposition file in combination with
a PDF marks file.
For prior versions Metrix enables the user to select
an existing Preps template file with all the desired marks, referred
to as a "marks master". Metrix copies the marks (excluding
crop marks) from the marks master into the new Preps template file
it exports. This enables users to benefit from what is often a vast
store of existing Preps templates, all with marks positioned for
specific press, sheet size, and printing method configurations.
To best use this functionality it is suggested that
a qualified prepress operator go through the library of existing
Preps templates, copying and renaming templates for each specific
configuration so they can be easily recognized and selected by name.
Place all these mark masters into a single folder accesible to all
Metrix clients, either on a mapped network drive or on each local
PC. When creating this list of marks masters it is not necessary
to delete any impositions or independent pages, as Metrix ignores
everything except the marks that belong to the first signature's
first press sheet.
Once the folder of marks masters has been assembled
it is easy to select a marks master when exporting the Preps template.
In the Export dialog, on the Preps template screen, simply click
the Marks Master Browse button to navigate to and select the file.
Metrix remembers and defaults to the folder and file last selected.

At this point you may be wondering if it's possible
to automate this process so that Metrix will default to a specific
marks master for the specific press, sheet size, and printing method.
